Sheet Music

sheet musicSheet music is a handwritten or printed form of music notation that uses modern musical symbols; this can be used as a record or as a guide to performing a piece of music.
Understanding sheet music requires a special form of literacy: the ability to read music notation. The ability to read or write music notation is not a requirement for being able to play or compose music.

The skill of sight-reading is the ability of a musician to perform an unfamiliar work of music upon viewing the sheet music for the first time. Sight-reading ability is expected of professional musicians and serious amateurs who play classical music and related forms.

Modern sheet music may come in different formats. If a piece is composed of just one instrument or voice, the whole work may be written or printed as one piece of sheet music. If an instrumental piece is intended to be performed by more than one person, each performer will usually have a separate piece of sheet music.

Guitar

Guitar sheet music is written on the treble clef. Being able to read music is a great skill that every guitar player should at least try to acquire, but reading sheet music on the guitar is not a necessity for casual guitarists.

Classical

There is a general problem with the definition of Classical Sheet music because of our understanding of “classical” versus “popular” music today. There may have been a notion that some music was “uplifting” and some were degenerate, but the idea of “good” or “classical” is a fairly recent value judgment.

Piano

Learning how to read Piano Sheet music is like learning another language. It has its own letters and symbols. Whether you are learning to play the piano through the classic method or the chord method, you’ll have to be familiar with how to read music.

Drum

Drum sheet music, commonly known as a drum tab, is a form of simplified percussion notation. Music is written on a staff, which features five parallel horizontal lines. The staff is separated into individual measures (or bars) of music with thin vertical lines called bar lines.
